Home » Visiting Pushkar Fair? Add a Rajasthan Tour and Save Time & Cost
Every year around November, a small town near Ajmer fills up with thousands of camels, pilgrims, traders and travellers. If you have been thinking about seeing the Pushkar Fair, you are in for a treat.
But here is something we tell almost every traveller who contacts us: don’t plan Pushkar as a standalone trip. The fair is spectacular, but Pushkar is a small town, and most people finish the main experience in a day or two. The smarter way is to build the fair into a proper Rajasthan tour package.
Let’s look at why.
The Pushkar Fair, also called the Pushkar Camel Fair or Pushkar Mela, is one of India’s biggest livestock fairs and one of Rajasthan’s most colourful festivals. Camel traders, cattle herders, folk musicians and pilgrims all gather here.
For 2026, the fair is expected to run from roughly 17 to 24 November, with the spiritual peak on Kartik Purnima (24 November), when pilgrims take a holy dip in Pushkar Lake.
A quick note: the exact cultural programme dates are announced by the local administration, so always confirm them before you book flights and hotels.
Pushkar is charming, but it is compact. You have the lake ghats, the Brahma Temple, the market lanes and the fairground. That is a lovely day or two, not a full holiday.
Then there are the practical problems:
If you are already making the journey to Rajasthan, it makes sense to see more of it.
When you book Pushkar as part of a planned route, someone else handles the logistics. That means:
If you only have a single day, a Jaipur to Pushkar day trip is possible. Jaipur to Pushkar is roughly 145 km, about a 3-hour drive each way. But a day trip means a lot of time on the road. A multi-day tour lets you enjoy the fair without watching the clock.
This is the part most people don’t expect. A combined tour is usually cheaper than piecing everything together yourself.
Prices differ by season, hotel category, and group size, so ask for a customised quote instead of relying on a fixed figure you saw online.
Not sure how to build the route? Here are the combinations travellers ask us about most.
Ideal if you are short on time. Spend a day or two in the Pink City for Amber Fort, City Palace and the bazaars, then head to Pushkar for the fair. Simple, easy and budget friendly.
This is the classic Rajasthan loop. You get forts, lakes and palaces along with the fair. It is one of the best Rajasthan tour packages for first-time visitors, because it balances culture, scenery and comfort.
Want the Taj Mahal too? Add Pushkar to a Golden Triangle tour with Rajasthan extension. You see India’s most famous monuments and then finish with the fair. This is a favourite with international travellers.
If you love history, a Rajasthan heritage tour can bring in havelis, old forts and palace stays alongside the fair. It is slower, more immersive and great for photographers.
Prefer comfort? A luxury Rajasthan tour can include heritage hotels, private guides and camp-style stays near Pushkar, so you enjoy the fair without the chaos.
Set your expectations right and you will enjoy it far more.
A few things we always share with guests:
Festival travel needs local knowledge. A trusted travel agency in Rajasthan knows which hotels are worth the price, which roads get blocked, and how to time your visit. At Rajputana India Tours, we plan routes around the fair dates so you spend your time enjoying Rajasthan, not solving logistics. Whether you want a short Jaipur-Pushkar plan or a longer trip, we can customise it to your budget and travel style.
Pushkar Fair is unforgettable, but it works best as part of a bigger journey. Combine it with Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur or the Golden Triangle, and you get more culture, better planning and, most likely, a lower overall cost.
If you have already decided to visit Pushkar Fair, don’t stop at Pushkar. Add a Rajasthan tour and make the most of your trip.
Tell us your travel dates, group size, and budget, and our team will design a custom Rajasthan tour around the fair. Send an inquiry or WhatsApp us today for a free quote.
The fair is expected to run from about 17 to 24 November 2026, with Kartik Purnima on 24 November. Please confirm the final programme dates before booking.
Two days are enough for Pushkar itself. But if you combine it with Jaipur and other cities, plan 4 to 8 days depending on how much you want to see.
Often, yes. Packages bundle stays, transport and guides, and they lock in hotel rates before the festival rush. The final cost depends on hotel category, season and group size.
You can. It is about a 3-hour drive each way, so it makes for a long day. If you want to enjoy the fair properly, stay at least one night in Pushkar.
Kartik Purnima week is the most vibrant, but also the busiest. If you prefer fewer crowds and lower prices, go a few days before the peak, when trading and cultural events are already in full swing.
